With Olympic fever heating up, Shanghai’s IPTV is experiencing blowout growth. In the past two months, the number of daily IPTV installations reached as high as 3,000, a jump of three times compared with previous statistics. Currently there are 800,000 IPTV subscribers in Shanghai, with the figure expected to exceed 1 million by the end of the year.
It would seem that pre-Olympics excitement is the cause of the increase in demand for IPTV’s unique television viewing experience.
Since SMG acquired the authorization to broadcast CCTV Olympic coverage, they decided to introduce a new interface for the Olympics, and with instant program playback, expand the user’s ability to be in complete control of program selection and viewing time.
The focal feature of IPTV’s Olympic broadcast is the new “picture-in-picture” function. This allows the showing of eight distinct live events in the same television screen, expanding user flexibility and choice.
At present, IPTV provides users with eight new ways to watch the Games, including video-blogging: users capture videos of memorable moments on their cell phones and then upload them onto the IPTV platform to share with other users. IPTV’s interactivity is further showcased in the Olympic-themed “Game Zone”, where users can with a click, hurdle like Liu Xiang, score like Yao Ming, and more.
Backed by the Olympic Games, this rapid adoption of IPTV will make it a one-stop shop for Olympic fans this summer. As the IPTV Olympic platform presents even more select Olympic programs, CTS Media, China’s only IPTV ad agency, has rolled out more advertising opportunities. With thirteen different customized advertising packages, CTS Media’s IPTV Olympic ads present a unique opportunity to engage target audiences. The “CTS IPTV Olympic Set” launched by CTS will prove to be a must-have in today’s ultra-competitive media environment.
